Oh yeah, something that got lost what with it being a busy month and all: we voted early, on Halloween afternoon, for the elections. For 
bunny_hugger this was a practical necessity; between work and pinball league it would've been challenging, to understate things, to get to the polls proper. For me this was just it's nicer to go with her than without. Michigan doesn't properly speaking have early voting, as early voting's been linked to an increase in non-white-male people casting ballots, but you can get on-demand absentee ballots and fill them out on the spot, at least in Ingham County, to much the same result.
We didn't go to the mysterious county facility out in the middle of nowhere this time, the way we did for that August election, and instead went to Lansing City Hall, the first time I've had cause to be in there. It's your standard-model 1960s city hall. They gave us the ballots and directed us vaguely towards a conference room set up for voting. That amounted to just having cardboard partitions set up across the table to mark the ballot in private and to seal up the absentee ballot with only you and your conscience knowing if you didn't keep it secret.
The conference room was decorated with what you might expect: a print of the Declaration of Independence, which for various reasons of the direction of time contains no signatures from the colony of Michigan, and a large, undated, aerial photograph of Lansing. Unfortunately Lansing hasn't had the kind of major building construction (or, fortunately, the kind of major building demolition) that makes it easy to estimate when it came from. You couldn't see our house in the photo anyway. Off on the side were some plastic knives and forks, a cup of sugar packets, and another cup of catsup packages. Apparently they get a lot of French fries delivered to the conference room?
Trivia: Voyager 2 tripled the number of known moons of Uranus during its sweep through that system. The passage was fast enough that none of the new discoveries could be specifically targeted for photographing before the end of the Uranus encounter.
