We've been getting the house battened down for winter, especially in the handful of warm days that pass between the bitter cold. A couple weeks back while bunny_hugger was at school I dug the storm windows out of the basement and put them up around the house. The big discovery there was the storm window for the bathroom, which really knocks out the draft which had been there, and threatens to make what was already (happily) the warmest room in the house into our little greenhouse. This also served as a chance to move around baskets and other stuff that holds other stuff, and lets unpleasant brownish-black substances grow, and scrub that clean.
I also discovered the storm window which would fit over our bedroom window and that we can't put it up because of the metal bracket on which the window air conditioner hangs. We might, in principle, remove the metal bracket except the thought of that terrifies me since even thinking about fiddling with the bracket makes me envision the air conditioner tumbling out of the window and right onto bunny_hugger's car. The window's on the far side of our room from our bed, so it's a lesser issue, but I keep thinking about putting up that silly plastic sheet over the window as a draft-blocking layer.
And we got the guy in to clean out the chimney and inspect it, verifying that the chimney is in good shape for the year ahead and our pet rabbit is quite large. Last week we also had the furnace guy come to inspect that and verify that it looks to be in good shape for the winter ahead and also our pet rabbit is quite large. Now we just need for it not to be so brutally cold as last winter.
