So cold up north that the birds can't hardly fly

Rather than go on about all the amazing stuff in my mathematics blog, which just skipped Pi Day for the first time in ages, let me share pictures mostly from a walk I took in bunny_hugger's parents' town. But first, something from our dining room.

Nice flower, huh? The amaryllis has been going for a dozen years or more and this is only the third time it's flowered.

There were two other flowers that I failed to get a picture of, because I naively assumed they'd last more than twelve minutes, but I did get to see them while they lasted.

Walking around bunny_hugger's parents' town. It had snowed overnight and was still below freezing, at least in the shade, as you can see from the chimney shadow.

Beautiful look at the small river here that somehow gets more colors in the reflection than in the sky.

Over to the side the playground area's also enjoying a light dusting at the end of winter, so that's nice.

Trivia: The IBM 7090 computer was a transistorized version of the model 709 computer, hastily designed and introduced to win an Air Force contract. Source: A History of Modern Computing, Paul E Ceruzzi. Wikipedia says the 7090 got that designation starting as the 709-T, for transistorized, the sound of which was then elided into seven-oh-ninety.
