Time Event
7:52p
I found my locker and I found my classes

I thought it remarkable I'd had a set of six glasses for a year and change and managed to keep them intact, despite hand-washing them and having an apartment that's all tile floors, ideal for shard forming, until a few weeks back when I tipped one over in the sink and it smashed.

I should have known: that was just breaking the ice. Last night while washing them I squeezed the handle on the soap dispenser the wrong way, sending the dispenser flying, where it smashed into one glass and sent that flying into the next. Fortunately this was all in the sink, but it took out two of my remaining fleet of five glasses. At least they're being destroyed in ways that leave them easy to clean up, but I wonder if the right-hand basin (there are three basins, two real and one small center one for a purpose that eludes me) is jinxed now.

Also a mystery to me is why four students (separately) came by after 5:30 -- the department's closing time -- to pick up assignments. Does this always go on that time of day, when I'm usually at dinner? After the fourth I thought I could duck out, when another called me. My students also don't seem to register the statements ``I only have the Wednesday and Friday sections' assignments; the TAs have the other days. The pile of papers is in alphabetical order.'' They search through every paper and then say theirs wasn't in there; they're in the Monday (or so) section.

Trivia: The first television episode of Ladies Be Seated (a quiz/stunt/comedy show), starring Johnny Olsen, had contestants dancing with an inflatable doll, according to the script. Source: Please Stand By: A Prehistory of Television, Michael Ritchie.
