krazy koati

It's a meeting of the minds

I've been sort of fuzzy all day, not quite sure if I could answer, without consideration, whether today was Tuesday or Wednesday (it's Tuesday). This is probably because I'm trying to deliberately move my sleep schedule to something more reasonable, and I was getting into a new dream when the alarm went off. (I was in my high school electronics classroom, but my age and surrounded by people of the same age, being lectured energetically by a person railing against the sloppiness and lethargy of large corporations in the chemical industry; he included a mocking name for one I worked at a few summers, and I mentioned I had worked there, and he was starting to growl at me when the alarm interrupted.) Shaky state when you have to lecture, but I got through it fine.

And then the afternoon turned to a Faculty Meeting. Most of it was about the budget and policy changes; remarkably, the Faculty has all the money it needs and all the policy changes are good ones. There're to be seminars on how to write better grant proposals (to be more ``grantworthy'' they said), and pending the University President's (expected) approval almost all faculty will get a S$500 award for improving equipment in whatever way they see fit. I can't imagine what I need, except maybe the (disposable) fountain pens I like. The best quote of the afternoon: ``Another reason to stay competitive is to compete with our competitors,'' more evidence one shouldn't start saying a sentence without a good idea how one plans to end.
