Tomorrow you'll be worlds away

I'm sorry to be running late still, but we had a nice get-together dinner, and I had to pack and re-pack and do laundry, and now while for the first time in years I've got a flight leaving mid-afternoon, it turns out I have to be up before 6 am anyway because Skyler has to work, and he'll need to drive me in, and his work starts fearsomely early. Figures. But I'll survive, since I can steal spaceroo's alarm clock, and today was a good day for resting a great deal.

We saw Spaceroo and Wife briefly today, as they were doing final packing and preparing for their honeymoon, and we were able to have a pleasant Thai lunch to send them off, and I got to mention the discovery of cyanobacteria living in the Atacama Desert of Chile. This is a region where it never rains, never fogs, where the weather is so parched it was believed to be sterile. The cyanobacteria use water that's absorbed into rocks to survive, which you must admit is neat. And I presented the original video CD of Spaceroo's and my ride on the infamous Clarke Quay Reverse Bungee. You may have seen some of it from his Livejournal, but that was a trimmed section because the video CD file is huge and to make the download at all reasonable it had to be shortened. The full version is a touch under five minutes, including the setup and final checks, several bounces on the bungee, our waving to the crowd as we were slowly lowered, and our belated discovery of where the camera was so that we could wave to it. The Wife pointed out, too, that in the video CD Spaceroo was wearing the same outfit he had on today.

Skyler drove Spaceroo to the airport, and got back to Findra's and his house right in the middle of a round of the card game Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot, where Skyler quite helpfully pointed out a couple of things I was hoping the other players wouldn't notice. For the second time that I played the game, I brought it to the end, although I didn't win. I was a bit hamstrung by getting a couple of outright evil cards that stood the chance to completely reverse the course of the game, which I didn't want to do since I was faring pretty well. After the game, Skyler got a call: Spaceroo's plane had not actually taken off. They didn't know what was wrong, but on the tarmac the plane had revved up its engines, then stopped because a warning light went on, and waited for maintenance crews to determine that the problem was probably nothing serious. We haven't heard back, so we're assuming things are fine. We forgot to ask about the jacuzzi.
