Who are the people in your neighborhood?

So the neighborhood is picking up. Or at least, someone in the neighborhood picked up those six week's worth of the Community News advertising flyer with a light crusting of poorly edited bits from the Lansing State Journal that had accumulated on the neighbors' lawn. It seems likely it was another neighbor yet, since the newspapers weren't taken inside or thrown out, but just put in a heap by the end of the driveway, suggesting someone was sick of seeing them but didn't feel they had license to dispose of them. Well, the important thing is things are a little bit neater, and there's a fresh month starting for the newspapers to accumulate, I guess.

And the street is looking much better in general, too. The tree branches that had been sitting on the lawn extensions since the huge ice storm back in December were finally cleared away this week. The delay is really not Lansing's fault, since this was about the first time they could be cleared after the emergencies of the power outages (ten days in some areas) and then three solid months of daily snow and bitter cold that left the dead branches buried and frozen in place. There'd been noises made about towns getting ready to clear the dead branches, but I wasn't really expecting it to happen anytime soon.

Finally we're approaching the point that the pond is out of ice, and the last remnants of that neutron snow that takes forever to melt doesn't seem to be dividing our driveway from the neighbor's anymore. Mind, the entire mid-Michigan area is a lunar landscape, given the potholes, but that'll be fixed soon in neighborhoods held in higher esteem than ours.
